Understanding e-Visas
An e-Visa is a digital travel authorization that allows you to visit foreign countries for a specific duration, primarily for business or tourism purposes. If your travel intent involves studying or working, you’ll need to apply for a different type of visa through embassies or consulates. e-Visas can be requested individually or in groups of two or three people. Once approved, the e-Visa is sent to the applicant’s email address. It is strongly advised to print out the eVisa before embarking on your journey to the destination country.
The Advantages of e-Visas
Choosing an e-Visa offers unparalleled convenience. Its accessibility from any location with an internet connection streamlines the visa acquisition process. Applicants no longer need to endure waits at border points or navigate the conventional visa application procedures.
This approach significantly saves time and permits the completion of the process well in advance, providing travelers with greater freedom and flexibility in their travel plans.
Securing an eVisa
The procedure for obtaining an eVisa is consistent across various countries, despite differing requirements and documents. The initiation of this process requires the country in question to offer an online visa service. Travelers possessing valid passports are then able to settle the e-Visa fee using their credit cards. Following the payment, they can print the eVisa document for presentation at the border. This system is particularly advantageous for foreign nationals seeking entry into the country without the need to visit any official representative offices, allowing them to apply and pay for their electronic visas directly.
Global eVisa Countries
The adoption of online visa systems has seen a significant increase globally. By 2022, a total of 25 countries had implemented this system, including the USA, New Zealand, Armenia, Bahrain, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Gabon, Georgia, India, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Moldova, Myanmar, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Singapore, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sri Lanka, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Leading the way, the USA introduced the e-Visa concept with its ESTA program. Furthermore, the ETIAS program is set to launch in Europe by 2023, facilitating online applications for travel permits to enter European countries.
